My first visit to this site - I've been searching for a Gryphon site for a fair while. An excellent informative site.
I got into them after buying 'Midnight Mushrumps' in a 2nd hand shop purely on the name of the album - Yes some Live stuff would indeed be excellent.

I have been a great admirer of Gryphon since 1973, a mere lad. I was studying Medievil music at that time and later got a degree in music.. Gryphon fused the gap between early music and rock music.
I do truly hope that Gryphon, rises from the flames once more. To Richard, Dave, Brian, Phil, thank you for the pleasure that you have given me, through your music. best wishes frank

Again, well done on the site.

This is my first visit. I have only recently begun re-creating my Gryphon collection on CD after having no access to their music for almost twenty years. What a welcome reunion. Glad to see there is a site for their appreciation. I'll be checking back from time to time.

I wrote in some months ago congratulating this site and filling in some discography gaps (Musica Reservata).
I was wondering if anyone out there has any information whether King Biscuit will be releasing its audio archive of Gryphon material which I can only assume was recorded some time during the tour with Yes.
In addition, is anyone aware of any live audio of the band??

I first became acquainted with Gryphon when I saw them open for Yes way back in 1974. I was immediately hooked! Needless to say I ran out the next day to buy whatever albums I could find (the first, Midnight
Mushrumps and Red Queen...). The music sounds as fresh and wonderful today as it did back then! Although I live in the States, I was born in Leicester, England, so perhaps my British heritage accounts for my
love of their music. It doesn't explain why so many of my friends love them also!
P.S.- Does a live recording exist of the set from that '74 tour??

It's a dirty rotten shame Gryphon albums are so hard to get in Holland. Still I have Red Queen and Raindance, and Ein Klein Heldenleben is my absolute favourite track.
Thank you Gryphon! I'd like to say hi to Janneman Brascamp if he manages to read this at all... :)

Thanks for a very impressive site! I co-produced "Raindance" with the band, and engineered the album; I did the band's sound (live and in the studio) from mid-1974 to late 1975, including the Yes tours. I also went to school with Richard and Graeme!

It took me a while but I finally found a site dedicated to the group GRYPHON. It is great that someone has finally acknowledged the talents and innovations of Gryphon - one of the better British groups.
I have a question for Gryphon Members and Fans: did I see Gryphon on "Jim'll Fix It" playing "Ethelion" on BBC television circa 1973/4? or did I just imagine it!

Hello, my name is Mike Rae, I am 36 yrs. old & reside in Rochester, NY. I am a musician, playing a variety of instruments but mainly the electric mandolin, tenor banjo, anglo-concertina & most recently the accordion.... been in a couple of groups; "1/2 Chicken" & "The Margaret Explosion"... big fan of progressive musics, mainly R.I.O. stuff 'tho I still love a bunch of other stuff, like the 'Olde English' progressive school of the early 70's & the English folk-rock of that era also. Still single, so if there are any female prog fans out there who would like to chat about music...........?
Lobby BBC & KBFH for some live archival Gryphon! A re-union would be nice 'tho fat chance of seeing Gryphon here in the states, even if there was one.

Your site is wonderful. I thought I was 1 of only 2 people in the world who knew about this band -- I bought a copy of "Red Queen" in a "cut-out" bin in a record store in Idaho in 1977, got so wrapped up in the group's music I tracked down the imports from there. Your site brought those happy days back to me. Great work!

Being only 16 I was unable to attend the 70s. However, my interest in music centres around that period, mainly in the sense of folk music. I am a big fan of the Amazing Blondel who I have seen twice on their recent tour. Then, looking for related music I came across GRYPHON! And the very next day I went out and bought the first two albums. I cannot listen to them enough, Midnight Mushrumps being one of the most amazing tracks on any album throughout time! Thanks for the great website that continues to educate!

I wonder if it is possible to get informations about what the band members have done since 1977, if look on the discography other performances... you can see that there is a place, where there's at least 13 years space. Othervise I love the page, I'm still looking for all the Gryphon albums, they seem impossible to find, feel free to e-mail me, the same goes for the Gryphon fans who just want to write something. BTW am I the youngest (I'm 16).
- May 27, 1998
Well I have presented to Gryphon, by my dad a month ago, and it gave me a shock.
It was great, the best I've ever heard. I just want to add that the album was "Red Queen.../Raindance" and I rushed to the web to see if, I could find any information about this genius band. And I found this page, which I love alot. I can't seem to find any other Gryphon pages, are there others. Well "Red Queen" is by far the best album, and "Lament" the best song. I think going to order all the Gryphon album I can get right now, but what Harvey, are his solo albums good?

Great to find. Do not know why it's taken me so long to even look.
Never saw the band live unfortunately but always did and still do enjoy the music.
Suppose I should have read the other comments before I made my first foray.. However having read a few of the other visitors' comments I must say that their musical tastes are very simlilar to mine. Not really surprising. Jethro Tull & Gentle Giant & Gryphon were my favourite bands of the '70s.
All of my Gryphon LPs are vinyl & we don't as yet have a player. I'll have to get the 2fers on cd - if I can find a record shop in musically time warped Australia.
Keep up the good work.

I recently found out that Gryphon were once recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour. As KBFH has begun issuing select shows on CD, they should be informed of the interest in getting the Gryphon show released. Email them @ info@KBFH.com.

Well I recently discovered two Gryphon albums, Red Queen To Gryphon Three and Treason and have to say it's excellent music. Now that I know this great band has many more albums, I guess I'll have to
bother my record store in finding them .. Gryphon will be placed alongside my other favourite progressive bands such as King Crimson, Gentle Giant.. btw am I the youngest guestbook entry maker, since I am 17?-)

I am very delightful to reach this Gryphon homepage at last and know the minute recording careers of the members!
I especially love the unique music of their first album. Apparently, this looks like an usual medieval music, but as it is, they play tratitional ballads or their original tunes with much up-to-date sence.
After I became intimate with classical music later, I understood their originality more deeply.
I also like their "progressive" 3rd album.
I think their achievements should be estimated still more.

Having seen them live quite a few times in the '70s..they were an important (and positive) influence on the person I have become!!
I was overjoyed when Amazing blondel reformed and a Gryphon reformation would be the crowning glory.
Brilliant site!
Sad note: Does anyone have a copy of Richard Harvey's solo classical album "Divisions on a Ground"? I treasured my copy until someone bent it. I have been trying to find another copy for what seems like decades (probably is!).
I still have the original sleeve in mint condition but need the album to fit into it (perhaps a taped copy would do). Can anyone help?

I was completely surprised to have stumbled upon your attractive website. Having been online for only six weeks, I feel I've thrown a pebble into the ocean. I am one of the sorry lot who knows very little about Gryphon. All I had was one cassette of one of their albums (don't know which one, now) and only for a few weeks as I lost it when moving...
But it was enough to marvel me, and make me go in a unsuccessful quest for any Gryphon album. With this website, my hopes revive...
And it's a great website too!!!

Pleased but somewhat surprised to find the web page; last saw the band in72/73 at a Folk Club in East Meon, Hampshire. Or maybe it was West Meon. I remember playing Pooh-sticks while we waited for the club to open...........
Am involved with Folk Club locally - any chance of booking band?
