Maddy Prior & the Carnival Band Autumn 2002 Tour  [20th August 2002]
Maddy and the Carnivals return with something a little different - a collection of songs on the theme of female soldiers and sailors. A common theme in folk songs, the particular inspiration for this set of songs is the remarkable story of Hannah Grey, who, 250 years ago disguised herself as a man, served in the army, sailed around the world with the navy, was commended for bravery, and on her return to London became a singing celebrity!

Ballads and Candles Video  [6th January 2002]
'Ballads and Candles Video' cover         In 1999 Maddy Prior marked 35 years in the business with a special series of live dates. Bringing together on one stage some of the remarkable musicians who had played alongside Maddy through the years, the concerts visited material from throughout her career, from her beginnings in the folk clubs of the late 60s, through the days of Steeleye Span and the Silly Sisters, to her ongoing collaboration with the Carnival Band, and her more recent solo work. Maddy is joined by June Tabor (performing with Maddy for the first time in over ten years), Steeleye Span's Peter Knight on fiddle and Rick Kemp on bass, Steve Banks (of the Carnival Band) on drums & violin, keyboard-player Nick Holland and multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley, collaborators on Maddy's solo work since 1997, and Rose Kemp (Maddy & Rick's daughter) - a blossoming talent in her own right.
The video, released recently by Park Records (PRKVID54) combines concert footage from those three nights of musical magic with an in-depth interview giving the background to the concerts and the songs, which encompass narrative ballads and folk songs, medieval carols and Maddy's own songs of life, love and family.

Arthur the New Album  [25th March 2001]
'Arthur the King' cover         On 9th April, a new Maddy album will be released by Park Records (PRK CD58). Arthur the King is perhaps Maddy's most ambitous work so far. At its heart is a dramatic song-cycle based on the story behind England's legendary King. Using a variety of perspectives and musical textures the songs bring vividly to life the world of the 5th-century warrior-king. Elsewhere in the album Maddy breathes new life into traditional songs such as Reynardine and Lark in the Morning. Compelling, haunting and inspiring in equal turns, Arthur the King is truly her crowning achievement! Maddy is joined once again by Nick Holland (keyboards) and Troy Donockley (uillean pipes, guitars, cittern and whistle) who provide Maddy's inspirational voice with a backdrop rich with colours and emotion.

Maddy talks about Arthur the King album on her new Letter.
