This page was great. It's great to know that VdGG receives the tribute they diserve. I printed out the numbers on Aerosol Grey Machine, it's the only record I don't have. It's hard to get in Norway. Maybe this will help.

  Paulo Taveira, Souto-CovoLamego, Portugal.
Em 76 ouvi dois discos que me marcaram profundamente: Pawn Hearts e Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night. Desde aí só parei em "This".
Parabéns, Eduardo. Esta é sem dúvida a melhor página dedicada aos VDGG/PH. Continua.

  Armando Visconti, Milano, Italia.
Since the first time I have listened to a VDGG record, I've been impressed by their particular sound, which alternates heavy rides of organ mixed to a kind of schizo sax with long deep soft passages.
Hammill's voice and lyrics are also unique. Even if it's very difficult to say which is my preferred song, I'm convincing myself that 'After the flood' is the one.
This site is very rich of information. Thanks!!

I know VdGG since 1971 (Pawn Hearts) and saw the group in Rome in 1975. I strongly consider Pawn Hearts one of the best music LP ever, and I really appreciate many other VdGG albums. I think Peter Hammill, who wrote all this music, is one of the few musical geniuses of our time, even if I don't appreciate quite as much his solo career. Congratulations and many thanks for this very complete and interesting site that made me remember the music of my youth (I'm not 39 yet, however).

  Keisuke Washida, Tokyou-to Japan.
I'm rather a new fan of the band because I had not known the band until I saw the article in somewhere in Internet about a month ago. It was not a small shck to me as 25 years long progresssive rock crazy. But again why did I not have a chance to see or hear the band ? Anyway it is a fact that the band is not so popular in Japan. Now I put the band next to the King Crimson in my private ranking. Very busy for listening their albums these days. To me this site is a kind of buyer' guide. According to the correct discography, I can buy their original album, not a bootleg. Thank you very much.

It's a great page for a band in Van Der Gaaf's position. They are out of the dates. Music keeps so much personality and it's still there. Music won't change, feelings won't change. They are not only a progressive band. They are guides to the signs the words never tell.

It's very good site!!!

  Harm Grunhagen, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
A very good site! It's nice to see that people from all over the world still like the music of VDGG. I bought my first VDGG-record (Pawn Hearts)about 25 years ago for only one guilden (about 0,5 $) in een local second-handstore. The record was curved with lots of scratches, but that gave the music a very special atmosphere. Unfortunately I lost that record, so now I have to listen to the clean digital sound of my cd.

A very good sight. Excellent graphics and details. As I am a promoter and staff writer for Expose Magazine, this is of great interest to our readers when we refer websites in a planned Hammill career overview.

Nice Site! A friend introduced me to Van der Graaf four years ago and they have been a big influence on my music ever since. As a keyboard player, I appreciate Hugh Banton's work particularily. He must be one of the most original keyboard players I've ever heard. And the Sounds!!
Long live Vdgg!!

VDGG has been, by far, my favorite band since the day (12 years ago) that I came across a second-hand copy of "Godbluff" in a used record store. It remains my favorite of their albums (with "Still Life" a close 2nd.

I am a VDGG fan. I work as volunteer for a young radio station and I trying to inform in a true mode my listeners about the true music.
Unfortunately I have only few recordings on tape of VDGG. Maybe someone will be so kind to help me with some VDGG items.
Thank you for understanding.

I am gratefull for the net. I am a lost soul in the most icolated city in the world. I am so happy to know people who respect Vdgg as much as me. I am a musician who has been trying to establish a band in this city for a long time BUT NO ONE IS HERE!!....Unless you like Jazz But ehh......

  Dimitris Kaltsas, Volos , Greece.
I had the chance to hear a Van der Graaf Generator song in a very small age. I was about 15 years old when I heard "refugees". Peter Hammill and his company were one of my most amusing experiences, as was Hammill's personal career. "Darkness(11/11)", "The emperor..." and "Plague for lighthouse keepers" are my favourite Van der Graaf songs. Actually, the fact that their sound was so unique is the main reason of the fact that I admire them so much. The occult overtones and the gothic atmosphere is, on my oppinion, something very special, not only for the Manchester sound, but generally for the progressive rock scene, without forgetting of course to mention the unbelievable voice of Peter Hammill. I honestly thank them for all the great moments I enjoyed while listening to their music.

Cool site - I've been listening to VDGG since '71. Did anyone see the band when their equipment did NOT break down? Last saw the band at Birmingham Odeon in '76 - the memory remains clear ...
I was introduced to VDGG by my school chum Martin Price - thanks if you are out there Mart - eternally grateful!

  Chris Emmerson, Horfield, Bristol, England.
An excellent site for one of my (if not the) favourite bands bar none. Intelligence, passion, gentleness, ferocity - all of these and more. And whilst PH has gone on to make some wonderful music, it has never (for me at least) matched the sheer uniqeness and power of VdGG. Now - does anyone out there know of any live recordings???

  John Marotta, Welland, Ontario, Canada.
I first heard "Pawn Hearts" at the tender age of 15. It was fall of 1976. Thank you Mario, my brother. I had to have more. Soon came "Godbluff", "World Record" and others, including Peter Hammill solos. Absolutely Awesome music. No one even comes close to their originallity. And of course, I am still listenin.
This is a superb site... keep it up.

  Paul Andrews, Freeport, Bahamas.
The Original Aerosol Grey Machine released on Mercury contained a track called Squid II. Does anybody have an original copy because I desperately need to hear this track.
For your information: In the gatefold cover of The Least We Can Do the notes refer to L&M "Without whom everybody would have been much happier".
When I asked Peter what this meant he told me that L is Lou and M is Mercury records who wouldn't release The Aerosol Grey Machine properly and generally buggered VDGG about.
Please let's get some more VdGG stories and info.

I heard Plague of the Lighthouse Keepers first time about 15 years ago, and after that VDGG has been my greatest musical inspiration. Only now it occured to me to see what's in the web about them.
Nice to see this site.

Excellent Web site.

  Anandgyan, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
From college days 'till today; the excitement hasn't subdued. I did buy David Cross ' "Exiles" for the two tracks where ph sings. For the sheer intensity, the utter sensivity and his penetrating lyricism I remain devoted to this artist's work. Yes it began with "Refugees" but songs like "Pilgrims" and recently "Phosphorescence" keep me enthusiastic about his output.

Dave Bennett, New Inn, Pontypool, South Wales, UK.
I first came across the band in 1970. Saw them in 1971, 1976 and 1977. Peter soho on three or four occasions. All brilliant concerts. I have all their albums, as well as Peter Hammill's. I also have a comprehensive scrapbook going back to circa 1970 which has some interesting articles and photographs taken by myself at some of the concerts.
This site is very professional looking.
It's great to see so much about the band on the Web and that there are still people out there appreciating the best progressive music ever made. Thanks.

  Chris Ogburn, Campbell, CA, USA.
Very nicely done, indeed.
The music of VDGG and Hammill has been one of the few constants in my life since I first discovered it nearly 8 years ago. My initiation into this particular sonic universe started with Pawn Hearts, Fool's Mate, and Out of Water. I have managed to track down nearly everything else on offer, but the collection is still incomplete. I still need to find Usher, Fireships, Patience, and a couple other albums from the 1980's.
Again, wonderful subject, winderful site.
