I would particularly like to see the band again in the near future as when I saw them regularly in the mid 70s, they were absolutely brilliant and more creative and innovative than any other band I have ever seen or listened to. Are there any plans for Peter Hammill to tour in the near future?

I'm a quite young prog-enthusiast, 18yrs, who's really into the 70's bands like VdGG, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Gong, ELP and many others. This site is just another example of the quality most prog-pages has. Excellent! I think it's really important to have such a good source for VdGG to help "new" fans (like myself) to get into the band. It would have been hard to get the overwiev without a page like this.

I am not all that familiar with Van Der Graaf Generator's music, but I intend to acquire some CD's soon. I would like to say Thanks to the band because they heavily influenced my favorite band of all time. This band is Voivod. Thanks again!

Very nice site.
I first discovered VDGG in 1971, Pawn Hearts was the album and it fit in very well with what I was listening at the time, it was a great period for progressive rock. I saw VDGG twice in concert, once in London, England in 1975 [still have a pair of tickets in mint condition] and once in Toronto, Canada in 1976 [have pictures], I've also seen PH in concert [have pictures] and have met him on one occasion. Its great to see the memories being revived.

I am looking for anyone in the New York City area who has copies of Van De Graaf Generator albums circa 1974 to 1979. None of my favorite alternative stores seem to be able to get ahold of them.

Dear Eduardo,
It is a great pleasure when we find out some websites which are calling us about the good times of the 70īs, when we had terrific progressive bands such as Van de Graaf Generator. (Actually, they were a REAL sound generator!)My web surfing tonight was complete! Keep on moving, friend! "Searching for diamonds in the sulphur mine", Peter Hammill wrote down some day long time unforgotten ago! I complete: "Tracing his steps in the WWW!"
Congratulations!

It's now been 20 years since I first heard Hammill (Forsaken Gardens was the first memorable exposure), and his epochal songs have guided me through many a dark night of the soul- thank you for assembling such a complete set of informative links for this illustrious muse (and for the intense tallents of Banton, Jaxon, Evans, Potter- and CJ Smith, whose early contributions deserve memorable credit). Keep up the good work, particularly in providing memorabilia for fans new & old, and reminding us that he's still at it... (and tell us if PH still takes fan encouragement mail)

My first acquaintance with VDGG or Peter Hammill came with "The QZ/ The PD" album, which provided me with a visceral antidote to the rigours of boarding school life in parochial climes. It has two songs which move me to this day. "Siren Song" is truly out there! However, my interest waned, my tastes changed, as they are wont to do, and it was not until recently that I redsicovered the music, driving through New Mexico with all my worldly goods in tow. I found a couple of tapes in a box in the back of the U-Haul which did the full bronchio-dilatory monty on me, .... a compilation of VDGG, Velvet Underground, and Devo tracks. Even much of the older VDGG and Hammill sounds fresh, it still has a cerebellum-quivering, mood-enhancing, electrode-on-yer-balls effect. Now as an expatriate of several years I find myself drawn back to this music ... I am in the process of catching up with more recent releases, and updating the vinyl classics with later CD releases.
Thanks for the great web site... it has shown me that VDGG have a truly international appeal.
PS. Several songs on Nick Cave's "The Boatman's Call" sound a lot like Peter Hammill to me. Has any one else noticed any similarities?

My acquaintance with VdGG has been limited (so far!) but very pleasant :)! When I sought out information on the group, however, I found very little :(.
My two VdGG albums ("Pawn Hearts" and "Godbluff") are both on the reissue Blue Plate division of Caroline Records, and they are bereft of any significant liner notes, most especially bereft of lyrics! Hammill is one of those singers who demands much from the listener, so living w/o the lyrics is hard :)!
This site is wonderful, thank you!
