THANKS to my good friend Gianfranco Rosatti I had the great pleasure of premiering the latest PFM live CD, "Il Best". I'm happy to report that this is a true testament to the fact that this band can still deliver the goods - especially live.

Tracks are featured from just about all eras in the bands history and the even for those who have heard some of their live concerts from past tours the arrangements are different enough that even the old standards have merit, as opposed to Orme whose latest offering was little more than a studio rehash, in my humble opinion.

From a production standpoint I must say that unlike my other favorite band, Yes, they have really given the discs the proper "live feel" as opposed to the blatant post performance overdubs which mar the live "Keys to Ascension" discs released by my beloved affirmatives. This one sounds like a live album should!

Most important from my perspective is that Premoli has once again returned to form, efforts from this one such as "Four Holes / La Luna" highlight the player which I feel was the best of the entire genre in the heyday of prog in the mid 70's. Though slightly less flamboyant than his former persona his interpretations of the classics are beautifully played.

If they can do this well without Pagani one has to wonder how intense the playing would be should his rumored return turn out to be true!

I think all here will find this a worthy addition to your library and I hope you all will seek it out - you won't be disappointed.
